Indeed, there is no limit to where they can be placed in your yard. However, something that you might have to keep in mind is there is such a thing as too much, and you want them to all be visible without them also being overwhelming.
When it comes to two-dimensional candy canes, those are better suited to decorate the front door. For example, they can serve as a hanging door decoration, or as removable plastic piece on window glass. However, it is important to note that although they are meant to be visible from the outside, they must be applied from the inside.
